What are bodyweight squats
May 8, 2021Bodyweight squats are an excellent low body strength training exercise that you can execute anywhere. There are several variations and the most basic is just to take your hands off the floor and slowly lower yourself down until your lower body is at 90 degrees while maintaining good form. Bodyweight squats are executed in the same way in which you perform any other squat exercise. The difference is that you’re using your own body weight against it to lift yourself up instead of something heavier like a kettlebell or dumbbell. I like to mix these two exercises up so that I can train different parts of my body at the same time and keep my workouts simple and fun.
One major exercise which I really like is doing squats with a medicine ball. The medicine ball comes in handy because it keeps you from cheating by trying to get up to full speed as soon as you land on your toes or knees. Also the ball helps to develop balance and gives you a full range of motion to complete the exercise. Another great exercise which is also used with the medicine ball is called the cat pose and you do the exercise by bending your knees slightly and holding onto the ball between your feet.
Bodyweight squats require lots of balance to execute and they also build up your muscles at the same time. These squats are a major component of many workouts because they build strength, improve posture, and increase your flexibility at the same time. This exercise alone can do wonders for your lower back. As I mentioned earlier you use your own body weight against it when performing this exercise, so it’s important to not cheat by trying to reach full speed as soon as you land on your toes or knees.
